Cuddlr was a location-based social-meeting app a bit like Tinder… but just for cuddling. Developed as a side project, on launch it received a large, global media response & 240,000 downloads in the first 9 weeks. It was featured in the New York Times, Salon, MTV, The Onion, Cosmo, NPR, BBC World Service, CBC, BBC 5, ESPN, GQ, Jezebel, SF Weekly, Fox News, and many others.
I am fortunate to have worked on the world's leading music and television recognition app, Shazam. While there, I wrote the iconic “listening” animation, combining low-overhead audio frequency analysis with Core Animation to make on-brand, 'dancing', reactive shards. I also engineered Shazam for iPad on a team with four other devs. The app and my animation were featured by Apple on television ads, in the App Store, in physical stores globally and at WWDC. Average 4-1⁄2 start rating and over 250 million downloads to date.
I developed and improved features in this music-messaging app to improve user engagement and experience, integrate more closely with social media, improve analytics, and broaden sharing options to include more 3rd-party apps.
One of two developers on this project, I wrote the entire backend and networking functions using Parse. The app was featured by Apple in “Best New Apps” category on launch.
While studying for an MPhil at the University of Cambridge Centre for Music and Science, I wrote SingSmash: a game controlled by singing. Using a classic game mechanic with a twist (the singing part) it helps players develop musicality without adding in any theory or analysis— it is pure performance. The app had press attention in BBC Music Magazine, TechCrunch, ClassicFM, Festival of Ideas, musicLearningLive!Asia, and iTV. 4.5+ star rating on the App Store.
I am proud to have digital agency Somo as a client. (That's all I can say.)
For Christmas one year I hacked an open-source physical-modeling synthesis library to run on iPhone and accept accelerometer input. Soon the very first shaker/sleigh-bells/jingle-bells app was born— or at least, the first one that actually responds in real time when you shake the phone. Average 5-star rating and happy users. (Jingle+ on the App Store)
